As some background I need to add a little history. It was all because my computer was giving me all kinds of fits. <br />
<br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">About six years ago I bought a computer. It was a great tool, It had acres and acres of storage space to put music, pictures, data, all kinds of stuff. I went to work trying to fill that empty space and I did a pretty good job of it. I saved pictures of all kinds; family, scenery, things I liked and things I thought were neat, all kinds of things. I am a big music fan so I saved all kinds of music; cowboy, pop, rock n roll, oldies, folk, classical, I had all kinds. It was amazing what I could save on this computer. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3eicBdS0jM23PCsv66HPQTO756vCD-iDDFPELLSVx_nWrYx2Bqg3NyhRmJ5BsLR_H0cVHrmGUMCoVGCM8-m_eEzucyKhbzdJ8J6N9cGpkOcXYLV4e1TepMBNq5ExhZ94pEh0JUScwwiKe/s1600/DSC_0015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3eicBdS0jM23PCsv66HPQTO756vCD-iDDFPELLSVx_nWrYx2Bqg3NyhRmJ5BsLR_H0cVHrmGUMCoVGCM8-m_eEzucyKhbzdJ8J6N9cGpkOcXYLV4e1TepMBNq5ExhZ94pEh0JUScwwiKe/s200/DSC_0015.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">The computer that I had before the second one had an 18 gigabyte hard drive and I used to worry about running out of space but I was told several times by my computer expert friend that I should not worry because I had oceans and oceans of space. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"></div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">I have never been too certain how much area a gigabyte takes up but if 18 of them makes oceans and oceans of space then a gigabyte must be a pretty big area. Then I upgraded to the newer computer and it had 120 gigabytes of storage. That is a whole lot more than 18 gigabytes and that also meant that with the newer computer I could save anything I wanted. If 18 gigabytes was oceans and oceans then 120 gigabytes of space really put me on a roll. </div><a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="MsoNoSpacing"><o:p> </o:p>So I started collecting more music, data, pictures of all kinds, all kinds of things. I even have a collection of Hazelden Daily Thoughts that span almost 8 years. I don't know what I am going to do with them, but at least they have kept me sober.</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">Then a day came along when all these gigabytes that I had started to get full. Of course I guess after 6-7 years a computer starts to get tired also and my computer started acting up and doing funny things. Sometimes when I was looking for more pictures or information the computer would decide it didn't like what I was doing and so it would turn off and then turn back on. And there were times when I would shut it down at night that it would turn right back on. I guess it was not ready for bed----but I was though. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">Then I started to notice that I did not have oceans and oceans of space left in the storage area. That and the fact that the computer was doing funny little things made me think that it might be a good idea to get rid of some of the saved things that I didn't use much anymore. I hated to do it but I went in and started to delete old programs and such that I didn't use. I was looking for more space to refill. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">After I had deleted a number of things I wasn't using I decided to restart the computer because that is what they usually tell you to do when you put new stuff on the computer. So I hit the restart button and the computer shut down fine. Then it started back up but all it would come up with was a black screen and a message that said that it could not find the LTDS-NFL?????? Why was it looking for a football game? Every time I would try to start it I would get the same message, so I called my computer friend and told him my story and how my computer was snubbing me and he and his step-son came over to see what the computer was doing.</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"> The step-son is a computer expert and knows how to talk to computers and he worked with it for a while but was not able to make much headway with the computer. It still could not find what it was looking for, so we decide to take the hard drive out and he would put it in another computer and see if he could find what was missing or determine what had happened and hopefully restore the system. Restoring the system was important because now all those things I had saved all these years were locked up in that little box. All my pictures, my music, all the data and information I had gathered, even the 8 years of Hazelden Daily Thoughts were locked up in there. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"></div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">So we pulled the computer box up on the desk and took the side panel off and 'HOLY STINK', you would not believe the dust and lint and gunk. It was an absolute mess, course I guess that was to be expected after 7 years or so. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">He carefully took the hard drive out (where all my music, pictures, information, Hazelden Thoughts were stored and it wasn't all that big, where was all the oceans and oceans of space that I had heard of). He then put the side back on the computer and locked up all that dust and goop inside the box. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">He said he would put the hard drive in a new computer and see if he could find the windows on it. I guess that was what was lost. My computer couldn't find the windows. I didn't even know they had windows in them. Maybe if they opened the windows more often there would not be so much dust and goop! </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div>Anyway he took the hard drive and told me to stop at the store and pick up a couple of cans of air for him to use to clean out the inside of the computer when he came back. OKAY! Now just where is the air store? I had no idea where the air store was so I decided to stop at Wal Mart. They have everything else!<br />
<div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"> I stopped at Wal Mart but I couldn't find the air section. I thought maybe the department where they mounted tires would have some, but that was in Costco not Wal Mart, so I stopped at the camera bar and asked the girl there where I could find a couple of cans of air---She looked at me like I was nuts! At least she didn't run away. So I explained to her what had happened and that I needed the air to clean out my old computer. She was sharp! She told me I should check with the computer section and see if they could help and so I did. I went to the computer department and asked a young man there if they had a couple of cans of air. He told me he was not sure and would have to check. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">He called an older gentleman over and asked him and he said. "I usually do but I think we are out at this time." He went over to the shelf where it was supposed to be and they were all gone. He told me to check in the business supply department, that they carried it also. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">I went to the business supply department and found some stuff called dust buster. I think that was what I was looking for but when I picked them up there was liquid in them and that really concerned me. I didn't want to spray a bunch of liquid into my old computer, then it would be full of mud, and so I left Wal Mart. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">I thought about taking the computer down to the tire store and just blow it out down there but decided that was probably not a very good idea. Instead I decided to stop at Staples, a computer store, on my way home. The first person I asked knew where the cans of air were and they were on sale. It still made me nervous because I could still feel liquid in the can. The guy said not to worry the liquid does not come out. Did that mean I was only getting a part of a can of air? </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb0LtBt7YDkkuyq0fBCnZpG_pFfOZssSAJ-rlJ8b1-Rp3ew1uWsMcVu8q9ZMiBme3sbGI0f7yJxLzCAukCWNY6B_Wk5j9HOJWOKNWvXRAWz8m187zS1qhm8MrzcUQdAzWVH1gG-cuGszR8/s1600/DSC_0016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb0LtBt7YDkkuyq0fBCnZpG_pFfOZssSAJ-rlJ8b1-Rp3ew1uWsMcVu8q9ZMiBme3sbGI0f7yJxLzCAukCWNY6B_Wk5j9HOJWOKNWvXRAWz8m187zS1qhm8MrzcUQdAzWVH1gG-cuGszR8/s320/DSC_0016.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"> So I took my cans of air home and then I got the computer and set it on the desk in my office and started to take the side panel off of the computer. As I was working on the side panel a thought crossed my mind. Where was all that dirt and dust and lint and gunk and crap going to go when I turned the air loose in there? That was a good thing to think about at this time because I did not want all that crap on my desk and all over my books and bookcases and everything else. I decided to take the computer out on my deck and so I put the side panel back on and moved to the table on my deck. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">I got the side panel off and took the 1st can of air and inserted the little red tube in the nozzle hole and shook it up and there was still liquid in there. I took a chance anyway and pulled the trigger on it and stuck the little red tube in the computer. You would not believe the mess! Dust and lint and gunk and dirt came flying out of that computer and right back into my face. Nobody warned me about that!</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">I had to sit down for a few minutes to get the dust and dirt and lint out of my eyes and nose. After a few minutes I was able to see again and when I looked a lot of the dust and gunk was gone from the computer. AND NO MUD! The liquid didn't come out! There was more to get out though so I got the can of air and got ready to go again. I was wary though so I kind of snuck up on the computer and stayed to one side when I let the air go this time and things went much better. I stayed out of the way and was able to get all the gunk out of the computer. It was pretty clean so I put the side back on and took the computer back in the office. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">Then I had to go back out on the deck and clean up the dust and lint and goop that had settled on my table, chairs, and such. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"> I'm just glad I didn't do that air thing in my office. Now I had to wait for the computer guy to do his thing and so I was waiting and while I waited I didn't have a computer to be working on and after a couple of days I was really bored and I got to thinking. That canned air thing was really kinda neat and I started thinking about what else I could use it for. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">As I looked around I took notice of the grape vines that I have in my front room. I really like them but they really gather dust and I can't imagine dusting all those little leaves. A while ago I was told to put the grapevines in my shower. They are not real grapevines, they are phoney, but they look good when they are not gray with dust. So I put some of them in the shower and gave them a shower. It worked great except one problem. All the big beautiful purple grapes changed color. Now the grape clusters were white instead of purple. Grapes aren't white, even for white wine they use green grapes so white doesn't work. They looked like clusters of marbles, so that was not a good idea. </div><div class="MsoNoSpacing"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNoSpacing">So I thought what the heck! I took the grape vines out on the deck and fired up the canned air again and it really did a good job. The leaves get cleaned of the dust and the grapes don't change colors. I have even cleaned the phoney plants and flowers I have and they look much better. I am still looking for more ways to use that canned air but needed to get back to the computer because it was still in crisis mode. </div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4796574943622119339.post-38334567159645541472010-08-24T11:37:00.001-07:002010-08-31T14:53:41.738-07:00Hooked on Nostalgia<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">I really love the mornings and taking time to sit on my deck, especially Sunday mornings. I love the quiet of a Sunday morning.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Although quiet is relative because even in the best of times quiet is not really to be found down here in the city. </div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">That fact was really evident a while back when I took a ride down the west side of Utah Lake. I wanted to take a look at what had been built on the south end of Saratoga Springs, a new city that has been built on the northwest end of Utah Lake, and there has been a good number homes built over there.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">What really surprised me though was as I drove to the upper part of the homes going to the west I stopped and got out of the car to walk around a bit and I was struck by the silence. I have a hard time describing how peaceful it was.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">That is something I dearly miss that comes from my days as a kid in the middle of 55 acres of pasture that I grew up on. Roaming those pastures it was always quiet. Maybe the baa of the sheep or some cows mooing but other than those interruptions it was always quiet.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Something else that I have missed from then is the call of the Kill Deer and the song of a Meadow Lark.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Back in those days Murray, Utah, was a small town and the surrounding towns, Sandy, Midvale and even Salt Lake were much smaller and there was not the noise going on all around.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">I miss those days and the quiet time and also the small towns and especially dirt roads.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4796574943622119339.post-89536581780161414602010-08-10T15:54:00.000-07:002010-08-10T16:14:07.380-07:00Moon Lake has Ground SquirrelsLast Month we spent a couple of weekends at Moon Lake in the camp ground. <br /><br />We camped right next to some friends who are the campground hosts there this summer. One of the things we noticed very quickly was the small wildlife. The humming birds were almost like mosquitoes, they were everywhere and not just a few but all over. The feeders that were out would have 4-5 hummingbirds on them at a time. <br /><br />The ground squirrels were almost the same. They were everywhere. While Dan and I stood talking two of the ground squirrels climbed right up the stairs to the screen door on the trailer and were just leaning up against the door trying to see in through the screen. <br /><br />One of the nights we were cooking dutch oven food and decided to ask the friends if they wanted to join us and share in the food and they accepted the invite. <br /><br />As we were sitting by the fire talking while the food cooked we could look right over into the areas where our friends trailer was parked and they had things fixed up like a little patio. They had a cover for shade and a table and chairs. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGQ1BX9naooK90EnaYzh5Xz2BQJD6m212snI0XkEPW7eTr6wmD3J60NN3u-uOQL7QzwFLjZKilQT2Bfzv2-Rn5VksP4Yk1VwhfrLXM6Qz-H9E2LAUlpF6Y_QmUut2euZL6X0MmAqmV-Ks/s1600/DSC_0114a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGQ1BX9naooK90EnaYzh5Xz2BQJD6m212snI0XkEPW7eTr6wmD3J60NN3u-uOQL7QzwFLjZKilQT2Bfzv2-Rn5VksP4Yk1VwhfrLXM6Qz-H9E2LAUlpF6Y_QmUut2euZL6X0MmAqmV-Ks/s320/DSC_0114a.jpg" /></a></div>It was only about 30 feet from where we were to the trailer and as we sat there Rachel suddenly asked what the deal was with the watermelon. There was a watermelon sitting on the table outside the door and it was rocking back and forth. <br /><br />We went over to see what was happening and found that there was a ground squirrel behind the watermelon pushing it trying to get it to roll off the table. On the ground right below was another waiting as if he was going to catch it. <br /><br />It was just like a Chip n Dale cartoon. It was absolutely bizarre. If that watermelon had rolled off and hit that squirrel on the ground I doubt he would forget it very soon. The worst part is we did not have a camera. I wish I had a video of that. It would be priceless. <br /><br />I really do think that these squirrels have spent too much time in a campground around people.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4796574943622119339.post-48419881171977092822010-07-30T15:57:00.000-07:002010-07-30T16:00:22.550-07:00My Deck is ChangingI still love my deck and it is still very much the same as it was last year.<br />

Things are changing and we must be going tropical. <br />
This year when the leaves were budding out and getting ready to pop I noticed some very loud screeching coming from just outside by my deck. And lo and behold.......<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3ZMSfj5uAzxlqRGGUa45gJzjICnnLokBEMDpsy0-1aiJDi7mW-wYmdsLZhLOKfdwsNsRpy9PpagPx8viL0TWUOU1faNBoZn6rf_nQMpE4zQXUK7TN0N0t_9d6U8arWrHf8a9qMEv8W4iv/s1600/100_0478.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3ZMSfj5uAzxlqRGGUa45gJzjICnnLokBEMDpsy0-1aiJDi7mW-wYmdsLZhLOKfdwsNsRpy9PpagPx8viL0TWUOU1faNBoZn6rf_nQMpE4zQXUK7TN0N0t_9d6U8arWrHf8a9qMEv8W4iv/s320/100_0478.JPG" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Look what I found. <br />
<br />
This ain't no hummingbird. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWuLKn5xxv0qOGWI7s7P4ZZIRf2w9XwALak8lkECLRR93bTTkfKKspggEtmLFuXuykVP7jK4aB7eYT4dou9MENT4fqcT-FkMPeLvj-Ll-X0VrzLoN9ra7UdN_Vj5ecDngDqbQeuO_7yPwG/s1600/100_0479.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWuLKn5xxv0qOGWI7s7P4ZZIRf2w9XwALak8lkECLRR93bTTkfKKspggEtmLFuXuykVP7jK4aB7eYT4dou9MENT4fqcT-FkMPeLvj-Ll-X0VrzLoN9ra7UdN_Vj5ecDngDqbQeuO_7yPwG/s320/100_0479.JPG" /></a></div>We must be going tropical because I think Parrots live in the tropics.<br />
<br />
I was not aware of that big a change in the climate but they keep talking about 'Global Warming'. <br />
<br />
Is this evidence?<br />
<br />

My dad and his two brothers had a gas station called the Three Swede's Quality Oil. It was at 5050 South State Street in Murray. That was before there was a lot of natural gas used and people heated with fuel oil. The station was also a fuel distributor and had trucks that delivered fuel oil to people. <br />
<br />
From the time I was 7-8 years old I was working at that station every chance I got, at least I called it work. Anyway by the time I was a teenager I had pumped gas in at least half the cars in Murray. What is amazing is I still remember gas at 15 and 16 cents a gallon. <br />
<br />
The Murray Liquor store is now on the site where the station was.<br />
<br />
The elementary school I went to, Arlington Elementary, was right across the street from from the station and just a little north. It is the Murray City Hall now. We lived right up behind the elementary school where there was a couple of old duplexes on Jones Court. We lived in the one at 5000 Jones Court. <br />

<br />
I don't know when they were built but they were old then. Now they have a natural gas meter in front, when we were there we had a stove in the dining room, center of the downstairs that heated the whole place and it was with fuel oil.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Right out on Vine Street was the Murray First Ward Chapel. That was where we used to go to church. That old Chapel had a large stained glass window in the end that took up most of the end wall. This window had a stained glass image of the Savior and I remember that someone had thrown a rock at it and broke the small pane that was one of the Savior's feet. <br />
<br />
I don't know if they could not find anyone to redo the pane or if they did not want to pay for what it would take but the foot had been replaced with a pink piece of glass. It really did not look too natural. <br />
<br />
The LDS Church sold the old First Ward Building a number of years ago to a private school and I noticed the window had been removed. A new chapel was built up Vine Street about half a mile, right across from the entrance to Murray Park and the window was put into the new building. <br />

The foot is the same. I haven't done as yet but I intend to go to church in that chapel. I spent a good number of my growing up years attending church beneath that window and I would like to again!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4796574943622119339.post-75141610734301917242010-07-19T16:18:00.000-07:002010-08-29T15:31:29.501-07:00Days of YOREI have admitted to being an old fart, I grew up in the 40s and 50s before all the technology changed the course of life. Don't get me wrong, I am not against technology but given the world I grew up in I am still trying to catch up with the waves of the future that I now live in. <br />
<br />
I didn't see a TV set until about 1952-53, and then it was like watching a picture show through a snow storm and there were only 2-3 channels to watch at best. There was the test pattern though. <br />
<br />
I used to get up on Saturday morning and go down and sit in front of the radio to listen to my favorite programs. At 9 o'clock a dog would bark and then this voice would say "That's my dog Tige, he lives in a shoe. I'm Buster Brown and I live in there too." <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeINbiJDgNVRpvuw_0o_SFOIJLgfPftBvWeL-r5LUbamfnuUgGF0ytIHU-0MXEEu9h7qlDriNDXKq5BGGQAglXvhsawzhVR8xwg9Yw0yLn9MtIKNV66Unn089l967RUAIK8X9-c3UaG2ei/s1600/Buster_Brown_and_Tige.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeINbiJDgNVRpvuw_0o_SFOIJLgfPftBvWeL-r5LUbamfnuUgGF0ytIHU-0MXEEu9h7qlDriNDXKq5BGGQAglXvhsawzhVR8xwg9Yw0yLn9MtIKNV66Unn089l967RUAIK8X9-c3UaG2ei/s320/Buster_Brown_and_Tige.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
That started the Buster Brown Show and his adventures helping and saving kids but he always came back to the shoes where he and Tige lived. <br />
<br />
Right after Buster Brown would come the Howdy Doody Show along with Buffalo Bob and Clarabelle the Clown and Froggy and his magic twanger.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBjGrywkDA92MBMehWwv23rG4n0OAJ-8QoSDJlKRqPdBRMp3kS4QcyxpQrbsZcyOAgvOslncbqE2rWb4psAKGlrh8ytVvVROSnkKzJBUQUguRSLmQ178hr8gwVS7oZg_R9U-KIke5rP0hu/s1600/howdy+doody.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBjGrywkDA92MBMehWwv23rG4n0OAJ-8QoSDJlKRqPdBRMp3kS4QcyxpQrbsZcyOAgvOslncbqE2rWb4psAKGlrh8ytVvVROSnkKzJBUQUguRSLmQ178hr8gwVS7oZg_R9U-KIke5rP0hu/s200/howdy+doody.jpg" width="153" /></a></div><br />
OH! The days......We all wanted Buster Brown Shoes.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
After the radio shows I would call my friends, we had telephones but needed to check to make sure no one was already using the phone. We had party lines in those days and there would be 3-4 families all on the same line and if someone else was on the phone you could hear them talking and would have to wait for them to get off the phone. <br />
<br />
Once they were off you would grab the phone and wait for the operator to say 'number please'. Then you would give her the number you wanted to call and then she would connect it all up. There were no dial or touch tone phones in those days, I still remember my phone number, it was 678-J. <br />
<br />
I wonder if the operator ever listened in on the calls?????????????? Hmmmmmmmm.<br />
<br />
Saturday afternoons we would all go to the movies, the kids that is. That must have been planned by the parents. <br />
<br />
I would get 50 cents to go to the movies, 25 cents to get in and 25 cents for treats and goodies. That got us two movies, they were always double features. There was also a cartoon and a serial, like Flash Gordon or Hopalong Cassidy and there was always the newsreel. That took up the whole afternoon. <br />
<br />
Another interesting thing is we always either walked to the movie or else we would ride our bikes.<br />
<br />
They were good days in a lot of ways, it was much simpler then but time has brought many marvelous things to make our life better also.<br />
<br />

<div>Here are some pictures that were taken on the 23 of Sept, 2006. I took them because it was the first snow of that year. It is interesting to look at though. The very top shows beautiful blue sky with white fluffy clouds just like summer and then there is a good 6 inches of snow on Timp, gorgeous white stuff. Going a little lower there is the reds and golds of fall colors and finally at the botom is still nice green leaves on trees and bushes. </div><br />

<br />
<div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div>Driving Provo Canyon is an activity I engage in very frequently, like daily. I have several spots in that canyon that I like to hike and try to hike several times a week.<br />
<br />
<br />
</div></div><br />
<br />
<div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363967840672993586" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZZyV9sUBxkfWQyQPRApjcbkYZz64dRLiJXx794WbGfFYHwqX-mkWJJFC_z4hZRXH0w1HYgqaEKOagptIr7-5zfmPyUpi5Tvow9BD3xiAw6tSMXK22DKPqLAUSfehfYf-VZz1SInVWjTU/s400/Provo+Canyon.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" />American Fork Canyon is the next canyon to the north and is where Timpanogos Cave is located and that is a very popular attraction. This canyon also has some fantastic scenery and the hike up to Timpanogos cave provides both fantastic views along with a good workout.<br />
<br />
<div>American Fork Canyon was cut through the mountains by the creek and at least in the first few miles of that canyon the road is bordered by almost straight rock cliffs rising up on both sides of the road. </div><br />
<div></div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363967847121013810" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWqBo2ZQQTQD7TQI3XvX8A7l5k3Kdg3UkKENRhHCDi7ATgR0ePwRsr8UwCz0z7xgM_K7aCQCTgCGQZjjmGaB62p1SnL_6kZy8a1aCVd9F8JshmoJRo3ABFcbIHKH2tJmrDGmRlNSs2kHc/s400/100_0231.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 267px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>It always amazes me to stop and just take in the awesome power of these cliffs and rock faces that make up these mountains. </div><br />
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363967853987817730" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFmPi1nKExJyFjUL5W78Ecfy09sIbCe3LvOlrie4_raENSereec22V2iphXG6fw3LXSdFKbQ0iEgY-0jN-sa1YQjeYdDDMrWp5xCK-L-0rH8S7r1G-xaRmxmEB2-m3l2GttVAcjNqjfLA/s400/100_0233.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>There is a road that connects these two canyons, American Fork and Provo,and it is not the main highways. </div><br />
<div>If you drive to the top of American Fork Canyon the road will go over the top and start down the side that comes out in Provo Canyon. It is called the Alpine Scenic Loop. </div><br />
<div>It is not a long drive across the Loop but one well worth the time it takes to drive it. It can be done quickly or it can take some time but it is time will spent and it all depends on how long you want to stay up there. </div><br />
<div>There are picnic spots and campgrounds along the way and fishing opportunities depending on your passions but also hiking and mountain biking. </div><br />
<div>Starting from the American Fork side it is easy to find because of Timpanogos Cave and the directional signs that are along the way even on the exit signs for I-15. Timpanogos Cave is just a couple of miles up American Fork Canyon so it is well marked.</div><br />
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363971122301914386" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhywki3YG26pnh50AMBmj1l5_vSgppGcXkg7f0PTitpJl8Sjjp00iKUTMq9WG0fQ7WDEOt3ifeDls-Boz3J0dLaYa4jXwFyFi-7huN6faMAMyR2s8QujYuVRDx7glSDm3-4t3MhwGsf5wA/s400/100_0229.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 267px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /> Passing the cave another 2-3 miles will bring you to a fork in the road. The left fork takes a road where there are many more picnic spots and some camp sites and will end up at Tibble Fork Reservior, which is a nice drive but the right fork will continue along the Scenic Loop. </div><div><br />
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363967861190061490" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl99NqlK9yT6Zl-9YCeBwFMZ7aw2ZjfgNLAEtwwGkXfAYwKfqevKo_VC9LzOJWQlekQQMQkYaLwvy4N7oJ976PEvvq2R6N_h1IFUFBzLKaPC-vma76IyrgYTJYUQ2WCQEkzsJm9DiGLfE/s400/100_0234.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>The next few miles have some spectacular views of both mountains and canyons. Further on there is another fork in the road and the right fork turns and enters the Timpanooke Campground. This a great camping area and also has access to the trail heads that go up to Mount Timpanogos. There is also access to the Great Western Trail from this campground.</div><div></div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363967866043219250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAcz9zN-VE2rtfrMEB1BbRd79YGWIGn3nJcWwb5u0dP4EQiELslFCKf46KqbCXK08upt5h-_0ZZNCjTMw16qbSVTmDhihvD5Jx3FgyowPhyphenhyphenC0Op5JbXOBh8V0LGcfxq4t6YZFC0ahWE4M/s400/Alpine+Loop+4.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>The left fork however continues on up the Loop and there are a number of places to stop and just look at the sights and there are a good number of great hiking opportunities. However there are not a lot of good parking opportunities along this stretch. </div><br />
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363971130506300114" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMTJ3jhKHzLNJfPxv5U1nazx9KfkaeCmntMK_tUq0zXD9m9CFJeTH__bt1paOliSQkar3ulOhfkfY-uRL0m5rYRoxCHJarj2RE5WR95pHe3_mpoeFDPYtgqK4eiPRvAx8MbS-vaPDTH4o/s400/100_0247.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>The road over the loop is not a very wide one. It is just 2 lanes but they are narrow and there a number of switchbacks on it. If you happen to be pulling your camp with you as some do you will not want to be too long as you may have problems. It is not a road to drive through fast, but with the scenery why would you want to.</div><div></div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363971150322083282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBvUX8Vf0RUWzMvhLVX35NWjMWis6P9ynccqGCDHApWArOe_x6Fy53H9DVJ1-fJDWdhCqj62Ms1qbhg9JSp65fWszP8uoU4nlysP1spC2tTdf5HRgmWciCusSMLrcA-Jl29NBA13Bx4AU/s400/100_0249.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 266px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>Next stop is the summit or top of the loop and there is a small parking lot and restrooms. This a place where you can connect with the ridge trail which has more good hiking possibilities. Then it is down to Provo Canyon. </div><br />
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363971141355430850" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmZImivacrZpp_6QYlKNYHJfm0TIr5_vrLWhi5la6dF9AKgQqTYzD8Wr0P6CwZ3Sik3MsSTrHW8nXAHArq6D-NT08iZHiejl9cWVN-T8ox52Y3Y8tMTfybQu-QDwzpzY6nJuA8MuaXpEI/s400/Alpine+Loop+5.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>Just a short quarter mile or so on the down side is a turn off for a road that goes to Cascade Springs. That is another adventure to take and a worthy one. Maybe the time will be right for this opportunity or it could be a future adventure. </div><div></div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363981158528893442" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAJMUMwv4KyHj2i6Tn5MAnVSWZ18OKeTqeaivqEJcNZW4FgRYa1HSpamtWdg7QHj0JJuH9JUU2vWZ4QLjocYviiaH7GJLKPELzdF9dyBc4l1SIj7y4ZA7mMOqFXOeYVt-9HsZnFLcdRjI/s400/100_0243.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 266px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>Our Loop journey now is downhill on this side and we will find ourselves mainly going through a thick Quaking Aspen forest. The road winds through the trees until we reach Aspen Grove. </div><div></div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363981167543599154" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_dEUi4kp7_vc/SnCwc8lSQDI/AAAAAAAAAY8/AHPNlrd_0Xk/s400/100_0245.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>There are cabins here and some facilities along with parking. This is also a good area to find a number of trails that go up the backside of Mount Timpanogos. </div><br />
<br />
<div></div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5363971162925803202" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOS7DtIdsU7E-sVlt2Epz0CPcy0mr1tjVfhS8FCD3aapNrnWqB780mRksZLt99n22sXHCI0x9Efl8O6wzYUGFdMB6xMRvNKdxpcdHrVJhrbDqrXwBQrAOeXU_VV4rmIE_OzmI6b95porc/s400/Alpine+Loop+2.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>Then just a hop and a skip and we are at Sundance the ski resort and from there it is just a few miles and we come out on the main highway in Provo Canyon. </div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4796574943622119339.post-62212955431081581792009-07-23T10:57:00.000-07:002010-08-16T20:38:07.141-07:00Cascade SpringsIf you are taking a drive over the Alpine Scenic Loop it is not a bad idea to plan enough time to take a detour from the top of the Loop road and go to Cascade Springs.<br />
<div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><br />
<div>Whether your Loop trip starts from Provo Canyon or American Fork Canyon your route will take you past the Cascade Springs turnoff. The turnoff is in a very close proximity to the top of the Loop on the Provo side and the road to Cascade Springs is a nice surprise. </div><br />
<div>While the Loop road is a narrow one with lots of switchbacks the road to Cascade Springs is a comfortable 2 lane highway with a good width. </div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361732440244106402" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-WkUCQ3JHh6qvSt08WKy2X1p-OAUwAPUM3oanrKEQaqeGPiKrDGcjtAQFnKLS3dEsT1VCEIuE4ZudHWKDC34hg7grXi0yLtONVpVYJDTKjyi7Tfdu1i2N-klgrWHfchT7tyDPDk0zTgk/s400/100_0164.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /> In the area nestled at the base of the surrounding mountains there were a number of springs that derived their water from those surrounding mountains. I have heard that there were 7 major springs but that could just be a good story. Also that story said that a decision was made to use the water from those springs to build a water park. The story also said that the project was used as an activity for inmates from the Utah State Prison and that they did the work on the park. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361732461921529074" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtd_iyzU0fr_mQV0iwFlUrO_czD9wt0zUw2sda6K-8D1zzyPJNyltx5ZZpxvGXw5NAk7mKDtEMI_2xla2hKsZkwfF0SrdN1r2KdMzlEeGnFIJw0Y3E9aL_KmUGSR_zFJOXROzM9ZqDyHw/s400/100_0168.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /> I am not sure of any accuracy to the story but it does make a good story. The result from whatever happened though is really quite pleasant. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361731011779488146" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy7Mt0ADxMs9Sp8uzMnSxM8misK29VvpArU_fVHTVQG8tNVGSOz3FJiVhCabiGJBTam3GZZ6KABwZE_DXPHJt_aMDew2IQ0vFJfJDvePhy3dBhHepJSU5U4K4hHCvMcQgddtYUF2voQ0s/s400/100_0156.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /> The waterways and springs have been cleaned out and worked on with falls and beautiful crystal clear pools and all set amidst the natural vegetation. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361731019770604402" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDPLM9Wv-PlVMSK2KLV2NPrkuzkcdTx8nUwwDcpzmVJaqIKme7_Rs2i16xGDLUh6FUIrDQmi6K6q_3gyjfBjZqdCDUdVjc1twDGhyphenhyphendskGT79-BsQlaHzqHXv1IjdsSpgmjaBBDemrdAes/s400/100_0158.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361731030284585906" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjom8Wg_NkF5StGF8otXKSAIBm5Pn3aSQWr5AOGid1D9KPabxbt7ezzuzPxStLGRhSGfv9jMJWRPUKFdtOIl9LM9Md9yZuxR1fPi-Cank8991Tlk0oNDcvKeA6ulkz4y6MhtgcVZCTU8_Y/s400/100_0160.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /> <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361733801288855986" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPs3GxQ66G2UEe3GcPVa1t36EkazdZlHWTfe6oSOIdgiCcO4TqTowst9gHH7aPHNeYS-qLIMAZr7IZZutQ3fdV78_VJPZYxeHs51rw50_3C3tILHr0rx11TB3suCIddWxYFljckIyhJwI/s400/100_0176.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />

<div>There are benches placed at locations to rest or to just take some time to contemplate and take in the peaceful surroundings. </div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5361731036609460050" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT9jUNKjWpHXBbtrb18HSSXJH027eRM0vqHI5ZKVh7w0MY4g_O0-wWQs195BKSbBmnlbRqZEmHjSt3eGDT7Cslgcs46aFCzs9s-b2O8Qk27ws0gWxzjFfydZRaGKmI4YMaLMzEI1AFt_g/s400/100_0162.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /> Cacade Springs is a very pleasant experience anytime of the year but that is especially so in the fall of the year when the leaves are all turning.<br />
<br />
<div>The Springs is at a lower elevation than the Alpine Loop Road used to get into the area so the foliage differs. Instead of the Fir and Spruce and Quakies as on the Loop road there is more Birch, Scrub Oak, Maple and Boxelder and the colors are different. </div><br />
<div>Whatever time of year you go though it is worth the trip!</div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4796574943622119339.post-11356387355649876562009-07-15T16:42:00.000-07:002010-07-29T12:00:05.237-07:00More TrivialityThe weather that we enjoyed this spring was very wet to say the least. We had a good amount of late snow and also a heavy amount of rain. It has all been very good for the water supplies. <br />
<div><div><div><div><br />
<div>All the reservoirs around the area are full; Jordanelle, Deer Creek, Wanship, Echo, etc. are all full to the brim. </div><br />
<div>Even Lake Powell has received a huge boost in its water level. It was very low before but they have said on the news reports that through this spring the water level has risen 30+ feet which is a fantastic amount of water. </div><div></div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359870633218269170" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz_7mZmJ0njTH98j9xnPceMk2begaAwGT8w5Ist4b37GjWMxXkv02QDKR4udygc3S0i9U2LvK1H-tb_h74m20F7tHucW_vc5QOh2sEkODpSVWKBluf2OSzhxRABLc7MNNhY3_kkHTCn4Y/s400/Summer+Snow.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>And there is still snow on some of the mountains. The front of Timpanogos is about clear now but the back still has a good amount of snow on it. Lone Peak still has quite a few patches on it as does Nebo. </div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359870639186921490" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioLZEcajAAxn_Ji2iZBlvIFv_2sY-v5KUJQWHbVPCycfoGSVlRUaWbs_tATsd_oLsEwPhw2osasOH4rKBNkPMbCUZVghqOIrmL1XRFT-yTqUqwosZVFwh1M_GlFgfMkh1gobyIOwToB0M/s400/Summer+Snow+3.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>There is one little squiggle just to the south of Lone Peak that still has snow in it. I guess it really isn't a squiggle but more like a little arc. </div><div></div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359870641007556386" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRRD1M3CMp1avNrmyw__Oo-rjegEN-RjGk1pSBZq1mF4ZD_MFafsjLCy5EiteXePrYGp53sf8VM5aKeLcaTY9_ZoIKeX4wl-gnttwhz5p7u-Yh1d2OJ8oL960lgVA9QrPWXQJg46w6iD8/s400/Summer+Snow+2.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 347px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>I was told when I moved to Utah Valley that this arc was a good water gauge and to watch it. The story was that if there was still snow in that little arc in June then that meant there would be enough water to get a good corn crop. </div><br />
<div>A few days ago when I drove to Salt Lake I even noticed a few patches on the Oquirrh Mountains north of the copper mine. That means that we have a good water year going for us and we will have plenty of corn to eat. </div><br />
<br />
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359870661819253282" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpAPe9TGdKZNorG8lqhofQeMAHS6AzZLVKZ9KldzDwr_Htg9MArqHFQZ04mQVStfg8Mp8zFNOK6IFKlR-6ZPQbxTtW4taG5b6ciC3qaJy_TXhd7lJ0TxeiMRyYXV7zD4aPm3oEBUOOzqk/s400/First+Snow+2.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>A couple of years ago I took some pictures of the first snow fall in this area. It was really more than a couple of years, it was more like three, it was the 21st of September in 2006. </div><div></div><br />
<div>My son was going to school in Arizona and roasting in the heat and hating it and missing the snow so I took pictures of the mountains and the new snow. It was an early storm but not too unusual. It was a fair amount of snow also.</div><br />
<div>Looking at the snow still on the mountains the first of July and then comparing to the new snow the latter part of September that doesn't leave a lot of time that the mountains are snowless in that high country. </div></div></div></div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4796574943622119339.post-84828103166476467672009-07-15T15:39:00.000-07:002009-12-15T11:00:40.200-08:00Geneva RemnantsGeneva is now gone!<br />
<div><br />
I have read that it covered up to 1700 acres when it was in operation and now that it is gone that ground is being developed for other uses, along with a huge amount of residential development that is taking place west of the old Geneva site. <br />
<div><br />
It looks like the town of Vineyard which is just west of the old Geneva site looks to grow like gangbusters because of all the new homes that could be built in that towns area. <br />
<br />
One really neat development that has happened though is the new Harley Davidson dealership that has been built across the street from the northeast corner of the old Geneva site. <br />
<br />
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359114593394332818" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfGDq67MuWLzX7mEargYIHLVs-v4wNNbS1Dx30lwTGMr8yg_TGSFCeviV4xxvrFO3pVoxl-y3iY9fMuexlkjV64Qiz0QmrEFuFcm3hxX3MfMGe2rE2-TnsIcvdj7eDByvm2z8CWwqOXbY/s400/Harley+Dealership+2.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 266px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>It is at 555 South Geneva Road in Lindon and it is a fantastically neat new building. <br />
<br />
</div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359114587828381922" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXZPQEwC8fYl6BFM9slXDH9bCsXkemrEHA3WDadovIXKlTt3VIC2rt2UJwPsrFzikItqh9g72ZxFL5L8K33SSsbkjHT-3DjjwLsOXsGX_xLnLcmcP-FMjSkh0vA0lsn9osZsoHBd1kQ4g/s400/Harley+Dealership.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 266px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div>They have a large selection of motorcycles and who could help but love a Harley! <br />
</div><br />
<br />
<div>But they have also constructed a very unique building and even kept some of Geneva in the whole process. The new building is constructed of recycled material that I have heard comes from the old Geneva plant. <br />
<br />
</div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359114600500263154" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaiFkmLOMbaJUEH1amTbMtBP6P-TG8UAbLKzvbxCNKpHrKHjdumFljSl0sW3FMmWypKXW5-E9srjYdta21_KLWe-CqOyFi-qSArnih8fU_QLiSV_01HScVULGqwzZmZIx6XOJOJVte61k/s400/Harley+Dealership+4.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 266px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
It may sound crazy but it is something that is well worth a trip by to see and even stop to look at the Harleys! <br />

In the area at the mouth of Ogden Canyon nestled up against the Ogden River we found the Eccles Dinosaur Park. <br />
<div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><br />

I didn't even know it existed and it was really a surprise. Some would growl and roar and the kids didn't like the growls and screams, but they were fun. It didn't scare me though, just the kids.<br />
<br />
<div>And if you got tired of chasing the kids they even had a place to get a break for a few minutes. </div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355464481967657826" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBIqRz39OQBesjNAAU5nAMHi1LaLZRdZHpV7kFNgBkRUv-yigKrGndxjxQr0N_CayFoMHA5zOIkULloOTXF0jQ4QRanzL0pM3IHf5acqzKl1nipvSnQgpGyqz3WQZKAAvgRFEOQmWEYyk/s400/101_0060.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 328px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355464493186412082" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_M2eCzlGVRUppmvfVplG_WqogsajfrF5twkg2xRYPjRC6NG9jjg4ABNn_sZrxjtMbZXGe2ughyYokJp80BA5EqCkumAv-le_-6rlnwoFIvCg9aHgQoXfrxwtbKUn0tiSvoIOUCGppL3U/s400/101_0063.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 287px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355464487370110386" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP0B3j8BAv6WcqefOym98OELWsojDEJQ9uBAzV4eG5sH6G3AfZSfVQmPIU7yGdO2ZWOjqODMKbLhuAwoHz6fIXN_MIqIihXU-ihE3Gp_ryLPXI64ymG4f2W_dHe5e6UFmIxP1uLUbet30/s400/101_0065.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /></div><div>The kids would probably like the playground better though.........and there is also areas for having a picnic if you brought one.</div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355464499391991826" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsIsm2bzFd9CkGIqI6qdXLh_0GUpFKaULWnwb8zeoH6IU2KKG5aCPxE6W_np2IJtGw34efhMIa7NYQ-BADqe1sC5KhsPAO-wnDKlv1ljct0i796yivXEuw5S_VwvRgmlczc2VAPDy2uXo/s400/101_0068.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 288px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /></div><br />
<div>They have a website for the park; <a href="http://www.dinosaurpark.org/">http://www.dinosaurpark.org/</a> and it is very informative with all the information about the park and getting there. </div><br />

<span style="color: #cc6600; font-size: 85%;"><br />
</span></div><div align="left">Five Hundred miles away Joseph Smith recorded in his journal that Wilford Woodruff was baptized on this day in 1833 although Joseph had never met Wilford Woodruff </div><div align="left">From the beginning of his journey within the Church, Wilford Woodruff kept a journal and he wrote in that journal faithfully every day for over 60 years. He has said that he could not go to bed at night until he had written in his journal and there were many times he would spend the major part of a day editing and updating those entries. <br />
<br />
</div>A number of years ago the family association went through his journals and transcribed them and prepared them to be published. They were published in 9 volumes--about 5400 pages. <br />
The family members were afforded the opportunity to purchase copies when they were ready for sale and sadly I neglected to do so.<br />
<br />
However lately, I have found a book in the library called: Waiting for the World's End--The Diaries of Wilford Woodruff. The author of the book is someone who was familiar with the journals of Wilford Woodruff and has taken excerpts from the journals rather than all the entries and kind of condensed things to about 500 pages. I found it to be very interesting reading.<br />
<br />
One thing really struck me though! The title of the book--<strong>Waiting for the World's End</strong>.<br />
<br />
The idea of the time being short until the Saints returned to Jackson to build the Temple in preparation for the return of the Savior and ushering in of the Millenium is a theme that I find quite common in the writings of Wilford and also many other of the early leaders of the church.<br />
<br />
In one place in 1880 I recall Wilford as saying that with the state of the world and this country we should not see 1890. Those men in that time were looking for and anxiously awaiting the return of the Savior.<br />
<br />
Another thought crossed my mind though!<br />
<br />
In 1880 Wilford Woodruff was serving as the President of the Saint George Temple and had been since it opened in 1877. It was the only Temple in active operation in all the world at that time.<br />
<br />

<div align="center"><span style="color: #cc6600; font-size: 78%;">Manti Temple</span></div>But that would have been all.<br />
<br />
Wilford was a great lover of the Temples and the work that was done in them and he labored hard to do as much as was possible, but with the 1890 timetable............<br />
<br />
1890 would have come with only three Temples operating and smaller ones than the plans for the Salt Lake Temple, which construction on was finally making good progress, but it still would be 1894 before it was finished.<br />
<br />
If we take a look at what has happened over the last 120 years since 1890 it would be interesting to see what Wilford would think about four Temples operating in the Salt Lake Valley alone, that includes the new Oquirrh Moutain Temple that will be dedicated this summer.<br />

And rumors say that another will be added in the Bluffdale area at a later date and there will then be five in the Salt Lake Valley.<br />
<br />
In addition to those in the Salt Lake Valley there are another nine within the State of Utah.<br />
<br />
We have already mentioned the Logan, Manti, St. George temples that are in the state but not in the Salt Lake Valley but there is also:<br />

We have had rain most days for the last 2-3 weeks, or at least in June. <br />
</div><div align="center"><br />
</div><div align="left">When I went out west the other day I noticed a number of hay fields with hay still sitting in them. Some was baled but some was not. <br />
</div><div align="left"></div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350217120268092690" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQi3mUCZovZOzbNnHjd3difG2OZa5PE5JOkRovIEczGvMcDgwQRXdrsKnng7_9Npb1IRsOwcOK8Cb7o1RE9_y8-yCcwmMz3PR-1zgqvWqJbnVDLBpavvY_FCq4lgTTb4z957OeBZnYrRo/s400/hay+in+field.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350217100267195970" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPPldwFDkzynB6491y9kqRSmgxmrtMbZ1CxayCFXlLoS2NwZ1Pyd3GSnYtT_qRYJTY-glIyeVfDzu-MKomsw6-Lbq1zpmQYkDBP3z0venATueg04xMqV3dslLCP7CK2WfRaKQ6YXhGxEE/s400/Hay+Field.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
I think the farmers have had a hard time this spring because of the rain.<br />
<br />
<br />
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350217106423127058" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiOF761r4J6kL2X0MrbWoq2g_ZABOJjU_sCLdf50iu_GyMmmmQMrhv6tBWVVfFbiAYWdLknggJQ0G1Wwu4nhejn34JdU5LcQoCyQhAuE8K2UHdnpXKmH7ityQBQ2Sc2gdSMahrx8tjsy8/s400/Hay+Field+2.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 266px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
Typically the first crop of hay in this area is cut around the first of June and then after drying for<br />
a couple of days it is baled and then gotten off the field so the next crops growth can get going.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350217115877980946" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhplfK4sru8NxWsqa-VMLn_pIQwqjyZZbzmo_uaGm8I29Yjd132rmdw0IhasmrSu8J0SWx_WNIu4dHNKGygP9ixZXdXYxKvp6B2yDzFeFKnS2gf0uySz2Hf34JO2MJiRJRBvY5TucyCeOY/s400/Hay+Field+3.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
In situations like it has been this year instead of cutting, sitting and drying a couple of days and then baling it gets rained on and then it is wet and has to go through the drying process again before it can be baled. So the hay has to sit for another few days and probably will have to be turned over with a rake to facilitate drying out.<br />
<br />
<br />
If the rain keeps coming back every day or two as has been the case then this process is lengthened out. Also the rain and moisture can cause mold to grow in the hay and that is not a good thing to have especially when it is fed to horses.<br />
<br />
<br />
Moldy hay can cause heaves in horses. The dust from the mold gets into their lungs and causes them to cough and have a very hard time breathing.<br />
<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5351020693700186546" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAN-RACQ1EM4-VehSZnKHvOPI-oECSxWQCk65OvxTj4ET5_u4igxTxJNWolMyHbRyL6hzCXA-NjZZiAYjQ8gS_wDa1CXmNWqZqe91PXxrYBOgxfHQHRkfDFk1XUiKdsxxE5pyK3trnIB4/s400/Horses.gif" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 320px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><br />
<div align="center"><span style="color: #cc6600; font-size: 78%;">Some of my best friends are horses!</span><br />
</div><div align="left">I had a mare that had a problem with heaves. She was a real good riding horse and was just given to us. We had a close family friend who owned her and had rode her for a number of years but then quit riding for some reason and was just boarding the mare and told us to come and get her and ride her if we wanted to, so we did. <br />
</div><br />
She was a pretty little sorrel with a blaze face. She stood about 15 hands, and was not a real heavy build but had great stamina. She was amazing in the mountains, she would go all day. She was no youngster, I don't know how old she was but she was up there and it didn't take long to realize she was prone to the heaves.<br />
<br />
When I could keep her on pasture she was fine but winter or when we were without pasture she had a hard time. With hay she would have problems. I had to switch and was feeding her alfalfa pellets and cubes and she would do fine on those.<br />
<br />
Not all horses that get moldy hay get the heaves and not all hay that gets wet gets moldy but it can be a problem and I guess because of all that I seem to notice when the hay sits in the field and gets wet.<br />
<br />
At the same time though one of my favorite things to do is go for a ride in the evening in hay country when the hay is down and getting ready to bale. When things are dry and the hay is has been cut the drying process creates an aroma in the air that is truly fantastic and never forgotten!<br />
<br />
I LOVE HAYIN' TIME!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
